“We wanted to create an electric-type rodent Pokémon that was distinct from Pikachu and had a unique aesthetic,” says Ken Sugimori, lead creature designer at Game Freak. “The paw print-shaped sacs and outlet-shaped ears give Pawmi its own memorable look.”
As Pawmi evolves into Pawmo, its Speed and Special Attack increase substantially. With powerful moves like Nuzzle, Spark, Thunderbolt, and Electro Ball in its arsenal, Pawmo can devastate opponents – especially those weak to electric attacks like Flying, Water, and Steel types. Pawmi‘s Natural Habitat in Southern Paldea
Pawmi resides in the southern reaches of the Paldea region, specifically amongst the craggy mountain ridges surrounding Inlet Grotto. This rocky, elevated terrain resembles real-world habitats for electric rodents like pika and chipmunk species.
“We envisioned Pawmi dwelling in an alpine environment with sheer cliffs and grassy meadows,” reveals Lead Environment Artist Takuya Uehara. “The habitat reflects its cautious nature.”
Southern Paldea’s peaks and ravines create the perfect isolated environment for the easily-spooked Pawmi. Abundant hiding spots allow it to avoid confrontation and unexpectedly unleash electricity for defense against threats.
When exploring these mountains, you’ll see shrubs and flowers dotting rugged slopes leading to Pawmi’s cliffside retreats. Listen for the distant crackle of electricity as Pawmis gather. Feel the crisp mountain air and misty sea spray blowing in from Inlet Grotto’s waters far below. The scenery proves both beautiful and challenging – exactly what we expect from legendary Pokémon journeys!
Catching Tips and Strategies

Stealth Is Key
Pawmi easily frightens, so tread lightly and move slowly through the mountainous terrain. Avoid running through grass or making loud noises to prevent scaring them away. Crouching and moving stealthily keeps them calm. Have a Pokémon that knows moves like Sneak or Smoke Screen? Even better for not alerting Pawmis!
Come Equipped for Electric-Types
Stock up on specialty Poké Balls suited for Electric-types like Ultra Balls to boost your catch rate. Paralyze Pawmi first to make catching easier. Have Potions or Cheri Berries ready to heal paralysis.
Lead With Ground, Rock, or Dragon
