Finding the Abandoned Village‘s Odin‘s Raven in God of War Ragnarok

default image

As an avid God of War fan, I‘ve eagerly explored every corner of the Nine Realms in Ragnarök searching for secrets. One early collectible I almost missed was the raven tucked away in Vanaheim‘s abandoned village during the "Creatures of Prophecy" quest. If you‘re struggling to locate this sneaky bird, have no fear – I‘ve put together an in-depth guide so you can add it to your growing raven collection.

The Significance of Odin‘s Ravens

Before we dive into the exact location, let‘s look at why you should care about these ravens in the first place. As we learned in the last game, Odin has sent out his two loyal pets Huginn and Muninn to keep watch over the realms. In myths, he relied on them to be his spies, bringing him information and whispers from afar.

By destroying the ravens, we‘re essentially blinding Odin and gaining an advantage. Each raven you eliminate provides a small XP boost, with incentives to keep hunting them down. But more importantly, collecting enough ravens unlocks special rewards.

Here‘s a breakdown of what you can gain by destroying Odin‘s pesky birds:

Amulet of Kvasir Upgrades

Destroying all 48 ravens fully upgrades this talisman to provide health regeneration alongside a constant Permafrost aura. This is hugely beneficial in difficult battles.

# Ravens Destroyed Amulet Bonus
6 Low Permafrost aura
12 Minor health regen
18 Low health regen
28 Moderate health regen + Low Permafrost aura
38 High health regen + Moderate Permafrost aura
48 High health regen + High Permafrost aura

Nornir Chest Rewards

You can also unlock up to 6 Nornir chests based on your raven count. These provide new armor, enchantments, and even a Heavy Runic attack.

Ravens Destroyed Reward Unlocked
6 Idunn‘s Heart Enchantment
12 Scaled Armor Chest
18 Scaled Bracers
28 Scaled Belt
38 Meteoric Slam Heavy Runic Attack
48 Plated Pauldrons

As you can see, there are awesome upgrades tied directly to finding Odin‘s ravens. So whenever you enter a new area, make sure to explore thoroughly and look in every nook and cranny until you hear their telltale cawing sound.

Now let‘s get into how to locate the specific raven in Vanaheim‘s abandoned village.

Gear to Aid Your Raven Hunting

Before starting your raven hunt, it helps to equip gear and skills that enhance exploration and mobility. Here are some of my recommendations:

Armor

  • Scaled or Raven Clan Armor: Both provide short boosts after raven kills.
  • Retaliation Armor: Grants protective barrier on parrying attacks.

Enchantments

  • Eye of the Wing: Extends Leviathan Axe throw range.
  • Heart of the Spark: Restores a burst of health when defeating enemies.

Skills

  • Cleaving Axe Fury: Charged axe attacks hit a wide area.
  • Leviathan‘s Reach: Dramatically increases axe throw range.
  • Whirling Storm: Allows dodging while sprinting.

With these equipped, you‘ll cover ground quickly, regain health frequently, and destroy obstacles or groups of enemies with ease. This smooths the path when chasing down every last raven!

How to Find the Abandoned Village Raven in Vanaheim

When searching for ravens, I like to be methodical in each region – talking to NPCs for tips, fully exploring before moving the story forward, and collecting any artifacts/treasures along the way.

For this particular raven, the clues lie in the "Creatures of Prophecy" quest. I‘ll walk you through it step-by-step:

Step 1) Upon returning to the wooden village in Vanaheim, speak to Lunda near the blue gate. This will start the "Creatures of Prophecy" quest. Follow her toward the temple at the rear of the village.

Step 2) Fight through the temple, dealing with Reaver sorcerers and giant tortoises. At the dragon statue, you‘ll face the miniboss Stalker. Defeat him to get the Ancient‘s Heart.

Step 3) Leave through the back of the temple and watch the cutscene, where a thief steals an artifact and flees. Chase him through the ruined village while avoiding hazards like steam vents and dangling spikes.

Step 4) Outside the hulking ruins of the Great Hall, clear any enemies from the area. Grab the Ancient‘s Heart from the broken statue head.

Step 5) Have Atreus shoot the posts with magical spears to create swing poles across gaps. Use them to cross over. Defeat the Einherjar warriors here.

Step 6) This is the key point – from the last swing pole, look left toward the rocky wall. You‘ll spot a raven sitting in a tree hollow.

Step 7) Throw your Leviathan Axe into the pile of wood blocking access to the raven. Hop down there and exterminate Odin‘s pesky spy!

Here are some tips to grab the raven smoothly:

  • Time your axe throw to hit the debris when no enemies are near.

  • Retrieve the axe quickly before it reverts to your hand.

  • Move fast so no new foes aggro you in the tight gap.

  • Use cleaving axe attacks and Executioner‘s Cleave to defeat the raven in one hit.

With the raven slain, continue your quest forward through the ruins. But be sure to keep an eye out for more collectibles as you advance the story.

Ideal Areas to Hunt Ravens

While ravens can be found across all the realms, certain locations tend to have higher concentrations of them to find. Here are a few of my top spots for efficient raven hunting:

The Barrens (Midgard) – A sprawling desert area with mesas, caves, and forests to explore. I discovered 5 ravens just in this one region.

The Forbidden Sands (Alfheim) – Winding trails and high vantage points help uncover ravens. Found 7 here.

The Plains (Svartalfheim) – The wide fields and lakes contain several ravens. Grab a boat to reach hidden caves.

The Jungle (Vanaheim) – Lush forests and secluded ruins provided me with 6 ravens.

The Sinkholes (Vanaheim) – Follow winding paths down into cavernous sinkholes crawling with ravens.

So when you need a break from main quests, revisiting these areas can rapidly increase your raven count and move you closer to those sweet rewards.

Final Tips for Hunting Every Raven

After many hours gathering these collectibles, I‘ve picked up strategies any Ragnarök player can use to complete their raven collection:

  • Fully explore areas before moving forward in quests. There‘s often no going back!

  • Note places you can‘t access yet due to story/equipment restrictions. Revisit them later.

  • Adjust camera angles frequently to spot ravens perched on ledges above you.

  • Listen for their telltale cawing sound to zero in on a nearby raven.

  • Equip enchantments and armor to enhance exploration like Eye of the Wing.

  • Max out Leviathan‘s Reach skill to easily throw your axe at distant ravens.

  • Use Falcon Dive for airborne attacks to take down flying ravens.

  • Record each raven location on a map or checklist to track your progress.

  • Check guides if you‘re missing any after thoroughly searching an area.

With 48 ravens to eliminate, it takes time and dedication to shoot down every last one. But the rewards are well worth the effort. I hope these tips help you on your quest to blind Odin and reap the upgrades from his pesky spies!

Let me know if you have any other questions finding specific ravens or unlocking those Nornir chests. I‘m always happy to share more Ragnarök secrets and strategies!
